چکیده
This letter is in response to the discussion of our recent paper entitled " The effect of parameter uncertainty on achieved safety integrity of safety system " [1]. We are grateful to the discussants for their constructive comments and suggestions, and in particular their insight into our proposed methods to measure safety-related (SR) uncertainty. The detailed response is given below. We agree that the second index, i M1 , is always zero for any input parameter. Thus, this index is indeed incapable of assessing the parameters' importance. In all four examples in the original paper [1], was empirically observed subject to numerical errors. In this regard, we thank the discussants for providing a theoretical proof of this fact. Combining the idea of the original paper [1] and Borgonovo's moment-independent importance measure index i [2], the discussants suggested the following index for measuring the mean effect of parameter uncertainty on SR uncertainty: (1) which, unfortunately, is not suitable for measuring the SR uncertainty as defined in [1]. Fig. 1 illustrates an example where parameter X i is considered. Assume X i takes two values, x 1 and x 2 , with probabilities p and 1-p (0≤p≤1), respectively. Eq. (1) calculates the expected

The effect of parameter uncertainty on achieved safety integrity of safety system
This paper introduces the concept of safety-related (SR) uncertainty and the methodology to measure SR uncertainty. SR uncertainty is concerned with the effect of parameter uncertainty on the uncertainty of system unsafety (defined with respect to achieved safety integrity level), which is in direct contrast to the effect on overall system uncertainty. The properties of SR uncertainty are discu...
متن کاملSafety Risks Impacts Analysis on Construction Project Objectives Using a Hybrid Model of Fuzzy Expert System and Latin Hyper Cube Sampling
Background and aims: The construction industry has a high rate of fatal or nonfatal injuries and all around the world which remains one of the most dangerous occupations till now. Since project safety and measuring danger in the construction industry is a crucial subject, so this study aimed to measure the impacts of safety risks on the time and cost objectives of project using a hybrid method ...
متن کاملDuctile Failure and Safety Optimization of Gas Pipeline
Safety and failure in gas pipelines are very important in gas and petroleum industry. For this reason, it is important to study the effect of different parameters in order to reach the maximum safety in design and application. In this paper, a three dimensional finite element analysis is carried out to study the effect of crack length, crack depth, crack position, internal pressure and pipe thi...
متن کاملTackling uncertainty in safety risk analysis in process systems: The case of gas pressure reduction stations
Industrial plants are subjected to very dangerous events. Therefore, it is very essential to carry out an efficient risk and safety analysis. In classical applications, risk analysis treats event probabilities as certain data, while there is much penurious knowledge and uncertainty in generic failure data that will lead to biased and inconsistent alternative estimates. Then, in order to achieve...
متن کاملanalysis of Parameter related to electrocution accidents based on evaluation of electrical safety performance in small-scale industries
Introduction: Electrocutions have a low frequency and severe consequences. The purpose of this study was to analyze the parameters related to electrical accidents, and evaluation of electrical safety performance of small-scale industries. Method: This study was conducted in 2019 on 232 small-scale industries. Electrical accidents over a 7-year period were studied. The tools used included elect...
